There is a profound and symbiotic relationship between all fields of artistic expression, such as Architecture and Music. This idea suggests a provocative interplay between architecture and music, which reinforces the notion that both are expressions of human creativity, reflecting our culture and aspirations. Just as a musical composition has its crescendos and diminuendos, architecture has its own rhythm, flow, hierarchy of elements, tensions.
This begs the question: if architecture and music can possess such a provocative interplay, what does that say about spaces dedicated to the performance and enjoyment of music, such as theaters, concert venues, and clubs? These spaces are the canvases upon which architecture and music collaborate to craft immersive experiences that engage the senses and stir the emotions. They represent the harmonious fusion of architectural form and the art of sound, with architecture playing the role of a creator that molds environments for musical expression. Much like composers, a designer becomes the conductor of a unique sensory ensemble, orchestrating the play of light, sound, and spatial elements to optimize the experience for both performers and audiences. In these spaces, architecture and music are not separate entities but collaborators in the creation of remarkable experiences. Architecture becomes an instrument itself, resonating with the melodies and rhythms produced within it. It becomes a silent partner to the music.
“Virtual Auditoria – Symphony of Pixels” will be held in collaboration with XR Hub Bavaria with a focus on the creation of digital art spaces, in which people can experience music in new and unique ways. With the assistance of XR Hub we will experiment with new VR-media solutions to seamlessly merge two different experiences into a unified and unique experience.
During the Semester we will explore the unique facets of music and the virtual world, exploring all the new possibilities an unbound virtual world can offer to the listener. Students will act as the digital conductors of these brave new worlds – bringing music to the eyes, ears, and hands of the listener in new and exciting ways.
The course will consist of groups of students from various disciplines. No programming experience is required for the course, but a high motivation to explore these topics is required. For Bachelor Games Engineering the course “Modelling with Blender” is mandatory prerequisite.
