The Drawing of the Year 2021 is an annual international competition by Archisource. The competition celebrates the very best, outstanding drawings created by students and professionals around the world each year.
The image of David Fritz shows the inner access zone of his design for the House of Culture in Gdańsk, Poland. The aim is to replan and densify the existing open spaces, which are currently used as car parks. A cultural quarter with a central square is to be created that ties in with the identity of the industrial past and translates it architecturally into the present day.
The judges enjoyed the strong architectural perspective of Fritz's image to communicate the project details. “Not all the materials are fully defined which allows the viewers’ imagination to experience the space in unique ways.” The judges admired the harmonious structure of both the project and the scene.
The drawing is currently being showcased with all the finalists in a Virtual Exhibition.
