Modul Projektwerkstatt kuratorische Praxis
Exhibiting "Healing Architecture "
MA Level 4 SWS / 6 ECTS, Lisa Luksch

Hospital buildings have a long history of development as an architectural type. Particularly in the 20th century, efficiency and rationalization weighed more heavily in design and concept than the needs and feelings of the sick and caring; hospitals mutated into highly engineered machines. In recent years, the approaches of "Healing Architecture" adapted from North America have finally provided the impetus to reform hospital construction and to put people back into the focus of planning. Despite some projects declared as such, there is an overall lack of fundable and demonstrably effective "healing architectures" and a feasible way to achieve them in practice.
In preparation for the planned exhibition at the TUM Museum of Architecture, we will critically examine the questions of authenticity, effectiveness and feasibility of so-called "healing architecture" in the seminar. Students will gain insight into the planning and preparation of the exhibition and contribute to the realization of the concepts through research work and content-related as well as visual processing of data and knowledge. Guest lectures by globally active experts and an excursion are planned.
