BIMwood:
Developing solutions for project cooperation within the value chain of industrially manufactured timber structures based on Building Information Modeling
The use of digital tools and methods significantly changes the planning and construction processes. Object-oriented, semantic building models are also increasingly used in the planning of industrially manufactured timber structures. Production is characterized by progressive digitalization in manufacturing. At the same time, the processes are becoming more and more elaborate and complex, since information on building systems as well as on production, transport logistics and assembly of the elements must be taken into account at an earlier planning stage.
The BIMwood project develops solutions for the value chain of planning and building with wood against the background of digital transformation. It is based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a key technology in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) with profound effects on common working methods. The research project focuses on further developing methods, tools and actions in prefabricated timber construction to improve smooth planning and data management processes.
The interdisciplinary research project BIMwood is carried out in close cooperation with the Professorship of Architectural Design and Timber Construction (Prof. Kaufmann), the practice partners Prause Holzbauplanung, Lattke Architekten, AEC3 Germany and the timber construction company Gumpp & Maier.
Results of the project, funded by the "Renewable Resources" funding programme of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), are aimed at decision-makers, planners, timber construction companies and the software industry which is depending on the requirements of timber construction for new developments.
