Building Information Modeling
"To plan" means to coordinate the diverse requirements of a project into an optimal complete single solution. Formal, functional, technical, economic and environmental interests of the parties involved must be coordinated and integrated, taking into account the entire life cycle of a building.
In order to effectively handle this complex task there are series of concepts, methods and software packages available called BIM (Building Information Modeling).
The aim of this course is interdisciplinary exchange and investigation into the limitations of these software solutions conducted by civil engineers, architects and other planning fields. We will use a practical design task as an example to be played through to create an integrated and data-full building information model. The focus will be to follow the digital coordination between different actors in the planning environment with the aim of established new working practices and approaches in the panning process. We will discuss results and each student will come to their own assessment of future possibilities and/or functional needs of the software.
This course is conducted in collaboration with the Chair of Computational Modeling and Simulation.
