Dr. Ata Chokhachian is a is a research scientist, educator, and advisor in the domains of building technology and urban climate. He received his doctoral degree at the Chair of Building Technology and Climate Responsive Design. He obtained his bachelor’s in architecture in Iran and his master’s degree in North Cyprus. During his doctorate, Ata Chokhachian spent a semester as a research fellow at MIT. Furthermore, he is the co-founder of “Climateflux”, a company that consults architecture firms, public institutions, and private companies on strategies and design solutions to increase public health. Together with Prof. Thomas Auer, "Climateflux" contributed to the Venice Biennale 2021 with their project two degrees, two meters.
The jury of the Dr. Marschall prize emphasizes the importance of his thesis for its development of experimental and simulation-based analysis methods to quantify the effects of the built and natural environments on the outdoor thermal comfort of pedestrians.
The 'Werner Konrad Marschall and Dr.-Ing Horst Karl Marschall Foundation' – the 'Dr. Marschall Foundation' for short – aims to promote excellence in science and research. The prize is endowed with 3000 Euro. The foundation awards the Dr. Marschall Prize once a year for an outstanding dissertation completed in the field of architecture at the TUM School of Engineering and Design. This year, the prize was awarded at the Day of Engineering and Design of the School ED.
