Final Review: Masterproject "Streets>>Boulevards – Designs and Strategies to remake the streets of Munich´s Kunstareal"

Termin, Präsentation |

Munich‘s „Kunstareal“ is host to a large number of prominent museums, galleries and research institutions. As a spatial unit, however, it is difficult to experience within the densely built-up Maxvorstadt. For years, there have been ideas to reduce traffic in the neighborhood and to develop the public (street) space into a connecting element. For Arcisstraße e.g. there is the idea of an „Art Boulevard“. Visions that seem not only desirable in the long term in times of traffic turnaround and climate adaptation, but also urgently needed in the short term. In order to tackle the necessary structural changes immediately and innovatively, cities such as Paris, Barcelona and New York are often redesigning traffic areas, initially temporarily, as „street experiments“. Is this of temporary minor effect or a tool of a strategy for long-term, major changes?
