Symposium: Making an Exhibition - Routes of Materials

Symposium, Presentation, Discussion |

On Thursday, 27 June 2024, the symposium Making an Exhibition - Routes of Materials will take place as part of the current exhibition The Gift: Stories of Generosity and Violence in Architecture from 10 am to 5 pm. The event on the topic of sustainable exhibition design is organised by the TUM Architecture Museum, the Chair of History of Architecture and Curatorial Practice (Prof. Andres Lepik) and the Professorship of Urban Design (Prof. Benedikt Boucsein).

Long transport routes of materials are only one aspect of sustainable exhibition design. A holistic perspective is required that takes into account factors such as exhibition duration, CO2 emissions, logistics, presentation and quantity. The organisers do not want to act as experts, but rather use the symposium as an opportunity to learn from each other, exchange ideas and network.

Curators, exhibition designers and art and material mediators are invited to a round table format to share and discuss their experiences. The aim of the symposium is to build a network between the relevant institutions and actors in order to shed light on different perspectives and goals and to exchange standards and expertise.

The symposium will be followed by a publication summarising the symposium and containing guidelines for sustainable exhibition design. This will be published on the websites of the TUM Architecture Museum, the Chair of Architectural History and Curatorial Practice and the Chair of Urban Design. Furthermore, the aim is for the conference to take place annually in order to create a network of experts who deal with sustainability in exhibitions of architecture and art. The aim is to involve museums and galleries from Munich's urban space as well as experts from all over Germany.
