Solar Station
The solar station is needed for research purposes of facade models, in it light irradiation, differential pressure measurement procedures (blower door measurement) and temperature measurements are made.
The solar station is located on the roof of the main building of the TU Munich, Arcisstrasse 21 at a height of approx. 28m. The station consists of three spatial bodies, which stand on a steel scaffold of the north terrace of the building. The platform of the steel scaffolding on which the three cubes stand is approx. 3.70m above the terrace decking. A cuboid measuring approx. 4.30 x 4.30 x 3.30 (l x w x h in meters) represents a 1:1 simulation of a room whose southern facade has a south-west orientation at an angle of approx. 25°. The two volumes to the right and left of the large body simulate rooms on a scale of 1:5 and can be rotated in two axes to simulate various sun positions and the effects of solar radiation. Their dimensions are approximately 1.30 x 1.30 x 1.80 (l x w x h in meters).
The blower door measurement is a standardized differential pressure measurement method, with which the air tightness of a building can be quantitatively recorded. It determines how often the air volume of the building is exchanged per hour at a certain pressure difference to the outside air.
The solar station is supervised by Prof. Bettina Wolf from the Department of Technology and Design of Envelope Structures.
