Als einer der einflussreichsten und beliebtesten Autoren phantastischer Horror-Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts inspirierte Howard Phillips Lovecraft zahlreiche Schriftsteller und Filmemacher. Die Erzählung „Berge des Wahnsinns“ aus dem Jahr 1931 ist einer der Grundpfeiler seines Werks und des von ihm geschaffenen Cthulhu-Mythos. Kurzfassung: Eine Arktis-Expedition geht furchtbar schief. Bei dem Versuch, ihren verlorenen Kameraden zu finden, fliegen der Geologe Dr. William Dyer von der Miskatonic University und ein Doktorand namens Danforth mit einem Flugzeug über die Berge, die sie als die Außenmauern einer riesigen, verlassenen Steinstadt identifizieren, die jeglicher menschlichen Architektur fremd ist. Die Studienarbeiten im Seminar sind der Entwicklung szenografischer Entwürfe für eine mögliche Verfilmung gewidmet.

As one of the most influential and popular authors of fantastic horror literature of the 20th century, Howard Phillips Lovecraft inspired numerous writers and filmmakers. The 1931 story "Mountains of Madness" is one of the cornerstones of his work and the Cthulhu myth he created. Short summary: An arctic expedition goes horribly wrong. In an attempt to find their lost comrade, the geologist Dr. William Dyer of Miskatonic University and a graduate student named Danforth fly an airplane across the mountains, which they identify as the outer walls of a vast abandoned stone-city, alien to any human architecture. In this seminar, study projects are dedicated to the development of scenographic designs for a possible film adaptation.
