Gestaltende Pflege – Freiräume über die Fertigstellung hinaus entwickeln
Masterthesis by Christopher King
The aim of this Master‘s thesis is to develop strategies that enable designing maintenance. For this, the roles of the landscape architect are expanded beyond the traditional role of the designer.
Initially, it is theoretically explained how people can cooperate with living systems. Three planning approaches are described that are based on a co-design of humans and nature.
In the analysis, design interventions within dynamic processes are examined using ten examples. For this purpose, the framework is conceptualized. In addition, the development aims and the undesirable developments are defined and six ways of dealing with undesirable developments are then derived. It turns out that landscape architects act in three different design roles - as mediator, design caretaker and curator. These roles are to be combined with the design competence of the landscape itself.
From these results, the three strategies of Hybrid, Structured and Curated are laid down, which show how to implement the designing maintenance.
The study initiates a paradigm shift towards a changed understanding of the role of the landscape architect and the landscape.
