Foundations of IPD: Product Seeks Manufacturer

Product Seeks Manufacturer
6 ECTS | Seminar for Master Students
In this introductory seminar on Integrated Product Design, you will get to know the entire process of Product Design – from research and first ideas to visualization and final prototype. You will design and develop your own home accessory, from sketch to finish. As a result, after this course, you will have designed and produced an actual product in real scale.
This year's topic is "Product Seeks Manufacturer". You will explore the product portfolio of a design manufacturer, understand their style and typical material use, identify a gap in their portfolio and design something that would fit into their range. We will also cover topics like marketing basics and presentation of your product. An actual contacting of the company to offer them your design is possible, but not part of the class.
We collaborate with the TUM MakerSpace, where you will receive introductory training to machinery usage.
The seminar language is English. You will engage in interdisciplinary teamwork (3 students per team). Master students from the following programs are welcome: Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics, Management, and Management and Technology; students from other programs may be considered after prior consultation.
