Master Seminar Open to all Disciplines
6 ECTS

Methods of "Design Futuring" – which involve both, speculative design and forecasting methods – are relevant for basically all disciplines across TUM. In this year's interdisciplinary project week we will explore the topic of "The Future of Sports". How will sports look like in 5, 10, or 50 years? Will we be working out mainly virtually? Can everybody be a sports coach? Will we conduct team sports with robotic team members? And will doping be legal? These and other questions will be explored through research, experimentation, and expert input.

You will engage with selected futuring methods from the design and management fields and develop a scenario for the future of sports. In the subsequent compact week, you will run through a Design Sprint and develop ideas within one of your previously developed future scenarios, visualize the future world, prototype the idea to make it tangible, and prepare an appropriate presentation format (t.b.d.). In a concluding symposium, invited futuring and sports experts will be invited to critically discuss your future vision and prototypes.

You will work in interdisciplinary teams of 3-4 students from different disciplines.

Part of the seminar is a field trip to Eindhoven in the Netherlands from Thursday 24.10. to Sunday 27.10., where we will visit (1) the Evoluon with the most exciting exhibition on Design Futuring (https://nextnature.org/en/museum) as well as (2) Dutch Design Week (https://ddw.nl/) where you can do additional research on the latest trends in societal, technological, economical, political, and ecological developments. The field trip will be financially supported in parts by the School ED. Please note: If you have scheduling issues with the excursion, participating in this course is also possible without the excursion. In that case, please contact us upfront to clarify the options.
