Christoph Valentien was born in Stutgart in 1939. From 1960 to 1964 he studied landscape management at the TH Munich and from 1965 to 1967 urban planning at the RWTH Aachen. He worked with Walter Rossow as a research assistant at the University of Stuttgart from 1967 to 1973. Together with his wife Prof. Donata Valentien, Prof. Christoph Valentien founded the office Valentien + Valentien Landschaftsarchitekten und Stadtplaner in 1971, which was relocated to Weßling/Bavaria in 1982 following his appointment to the Technical University of Munich. From 1980-2002 he was full professor of landscape architecture and design at the TUM. Since 2001 concurrent professor at Nanjing Forestry University, China. Emeritus professor since 2002.
