Landscapes of Global Urbanization
Exhibition at the Museum Schloss Herrenhausen, Herrenhäuser Straße 4, 30419 Hannover
08.06.2018 – 17.02.2019
Exhibition
It has been a long time since highly respected garden artists created exclusive parks for a privileged minority. Nowadays, landscape architects, as the descendants of the royal court gardeners, use their powers for green spaces and open spaces that are accessible and usable for all—including underprivileged social classes. The theme of this exhibition explores the situations landscape architects encounter when they engage globally and face the challenges of global urbanization, the effects of climate change and growing social inequality.
Who—in this case—expects a spectacle of contemporary garden art at the Museum Schloss Herrenhausen will be disappointed. The majority of growing cities are evading Western models of greening and beautification. These growth zones appear, from the outside, hostile and rough, but they are the starting point of a new urban society. For landscape architects, the aim "out there" is to gain a better understanding of the places and people, and then, in a second step, to be able to think up and develop improvements in the living environments.
Based on „out there—Landscape Architecture on Global Terrain“ of the Architekturmuseum der TU München, curated by Andres Lepik, exhibition design by OFFICINAA, 2017.
The chair presents its works at Cañada Real Galiana, Madrid and in Onaville, Haiti.
