KONTEST - CONCEPTION OF A WIND ENERGY TESTING FIELD IN MOUNTAINOUS, COMPLEX TERRAIN
Presently most of the wind farms are situated in flat regions such as the North German Plain. However in the future, challenging/complexe sites in the Central uplands of southern Germany, for example forests or ridges and exposed upland situations, will need to be opened up. In the interdisciplinary project “KonTest,” the involved research institutes of the “Windforschungsnetzwerk Süd” (WindForS) generate a conception for a wind energy testing field in mountainous, complex terrain located in southern Germany.
Subproject Landscape Integration
The LAREG department investigates the natural and social framework to enable a landscape-based concept for the testing field. In addition to the technical requirements, the department is trying to figure out how the testing field can be designed to achieve an acceptance by the local population with regard to their aesthetically changing landscape. Therefore, the geographical area and the formation of the testing field should be optimized according to the surrounding landscape structures in such a way that a connection between existing and new structures can be read meaningfully and though can be accepted in its spatial appearance.
