Research areas

Research activities at our chair concentrate – partly in cooperation with other universities in Germany and abroad – on the following topics:

• Development of industrial landscapes, e.g.:
  EU Research Project trAILs – Transformation of Alpine Industrial Landscapes (2019-2022)
  International Doctoral College SPATIAL RESEARCH LAB
  Landscape Transformation in the Mediterranean region - funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2021-2023)

• Interfaces between new cultural landscapes and fine arts, e.g.:
  EU Research Project ELAN – European Land and Art Network.

• History and theory of landscape architecture, e.g.:
  Initiative for the installation of a TUM Junior Professorship GTLA - Geschichte und Theorie der Landschaftsarchitektur (History and Theory of Landscape Architecture) between 2010 and 2013

NOTE: If you should be interested in writing a dissertation on one of the above or neighbouring topics, please contact Prof. Dr. Udo Weilacher; tel.: 08161 / 71-3249; udo.weilacher[at]tum.de However, please keep in mind that excellent knowledge of landscape architecture and related disciplines is a prerequisite for acceptance as a doctoral candidate - especially if you should come from a foreign university. As a rule, preference is given to applicants who have already completed a master's degree at TUM or who are familiar with the research approach at TUM.
