The project „Ran an die Ruhr” engages with the large landscape potential of the northern Ruhr-wetland area. The riverscape of the Ruhr, several farmlands, an extensive industrial district, and the city of Hattingen surround the site and together form the image of the city. In addition, the region faces many challenges: flood events, lack of recreational and leisure opportunities, lack of ecological awareness of climatic-ecological aspects, and endangered flora and fauna. The task will be to design a recreational area with resilience and robustness.
The students will work on the characteristics, qualities, and challenges of this area and produce landscape plans and concrete designs for the future landscape park along the Ruhr River.
