Anja Runkel studied architecture at the HTWK Leipzig. After graduating, she was employed as an architect first in Leipzig and later as a freelancer in the Ruhr-Area. Since 2007 she has been a certified planner for building biology (VDB), worked at Sachverständigenbüro Richardson in Witten/Ruhr in the field of chemical and microbiological indoor pollutants and at SakostaCAU GmbH Munich in the field of building pollutants, construction site access, building dismantling and sustainable refurbishment of existing buildings. She is a certificated expert according to TGRS 519, Anlage 3 (Asbestos Demolition, Remediation and Maintenance Work) and BGR 128 / DGUV Regel 101-004 (Safety and Health at Work in Contaminated Areas). Since 2018 she has been working as research associate at the Professorship of Recent Building Heritage and Conservation.
Since 2023, she has been a TÜV-certified expert for moisture and mold damage.
