Dr. Ursula Haller: The Purchase- and Distribution-Book of Wolfgang Pronner
The Purchase- and Distribution-Book of Wolfgang Pronner, "administrator of painting" at the Munich court of Duke William V, dates from the years 1586 to 1590. It is a rather unique source, which allows to reconstruct the creation of selected works of the Munich court artists from the purchasing of the materials to their completion. The study provides for the first time a complete edition of Pronner's notes, which are analysed under aspects of art technology and history of artists' materials. In addition to this, it contains an overview of the mentioned artworks and their creators. By bringing together information from the notes with information from other written sources and examinations of selected paintings, the publication can help to complete our image of origin, trade and use of artists' materials at the end of the 16th century.
