Analysis and Calculation of Historic Load-bearing Structures
Lecturer: Dipl-Ing Mark Böttges and Dr.-Ing. Joram Tutsch
The module focuses on structural modelling, analysis and evaluation of historical load-bearing structures. The focus is set on wide-span structures of building construction such as roofs, vaults and ceilings. Materials such as timber, masonry, iron, reinforced concrete and hybrid construction methods are covered. Students gain an insight into the investigation and calculation methods of existing buildings by means of practical construction projects. A historical building in Munich is used to discuss interesting structural issues, which are then transformed into specific modelling tasks. These can range from a large-scale overall model to partial areas and detailed investigations. The module consists of lectures, excursions and a practical building analysis task. Participation in the following modules is recommended before attending the course: "Historic structures of the pre-industrial age", "Historic structures of the industrial age", "Repair of historic structures".
