The city in conversation and debate
The exchange with the city and society forms an important bridge between our research and teaching as well as to the public. The focus is on the broader discussion and communication of the topics and issues we work on. This is often linked to an active intervention in the design and production of the built environment, as in the annual "Intervention Class", which addresses important urban planning issues and makes them discussable and tangible in space. We also dedicate ourselves to individual buildings or ensembles that are vacant or threatened with demolition, such as the former combined heat and power plant on the TUM downtown campus. We are also involved in parity boards and task forces, promote the discussion and development of alternative and interdisciplinary fields of activity and professional profiles for architects, and constantly question architectural and urban planning education in general, but also our own approach to pressing current issues such as diversity and the climate emergency. The field is permeated by the idea that the professorship is an "open system" - a structure that is in some ways linked, but whose priorities, issues, and processes we discuss openly with all interested parties at all times as we seek to constantly improve. This point is also addressed by the graduate:in network COUCH (Club of Urban Change), the establishment of which will start in fall 2023.
