Seminar XXXL Office Campus
Influenced by the paradigm of American efficiency and the German invention of the open-plan office and the office landscape, many very large office buildings and office clusters have been built since the early 1960s with growing liberalization of the labor market, taking on the dimensions of city blocks even in the inner city. These massive monofunctional buildings, an aftershock of CIAM modernism, are now often remodeled, reprogrammed, and supplemented with apartments and other functions. As a result, the resulting, more hybrid buildings elicit a higher quality of life and urbanity for citizens.
Surprisingly, the seemingly anachronistic typology of the XXL Office Campus is thus no longer a relic of the past, but highly topical again. In the seminar we will visit different examples in Munich, analyze them and discuss them with experts.
