Ferriss macht blau

Hugh Ferriss zählt mit Giovanni Battista Piranesi zu den berühmtesten zeichnenden Architekten. Nicht die Darstellung konkreter Bauten, sondern Entwürfe möglicher Bauten prägten das Bild der amerikanischen Großstadt. Die Volumina in seinen amerikanischen Perspektiven folgen dem nach dem New Yorker Zonierungsgesetz gängigen Schema gestufter Hochhäuser zur Vermeidung lichtloser Straßenschluchten. Die Seminarteilnehmer:innen untersuchen das szenografische Potential fiktiver Stadträume anhand von Architekturmodellen in den Medien Fotografie und Film.

With Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Hugh Ferriss ranks among the most famous drawing architects. Not the representation of concrete buildings, but sketches of possible buildings shaped the image of the American metropolis. The volumes in his American perspectives materialize the scheme of stepped skyscrapers following New York's zoning law to avoid lightless street canyons. The seminar participants will examine the scenographic potential of fictional urban spaces using architectural models in the media of photography and film.
