Key urban structure for green urban reconstruction processes.
Urban Green Infrastructure research project funded by the DFG.
The chair of Sustainable Urbanism welcomes Julia Micklewright and Ishika Alim as doctoral candidates in the research training group on ‘Urban Green Infrastructure’ funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
The research training group on ‘Urban Green Infrastructure” aims to tackle current urban issues, with a specific focus on the Urban Green Infrastructure, through the involvement of cross-cutting sectors and disciplines following the concept of social-ecological-technological systems (SETS). This group of researchers ranging from the fields of urban and landscape planning, governance, water systems engineering, architecture and ecology will work together toward a common goal – urban environmental transformation for climate resilient and energy efficient cities. understand and propose sustainable solutions for people and ecosystems.
Within the context of 13 Sub-projects, the researchers at our chair will focus on key urban structures for green urban reconstruction processes. The aim will be to explore transformation projects which help to establish or enhance superordinate network structures to enhance performance characteristics of the UGI and raise awareness in society towards environmental aspects embedded in ongoing transformation processes. At the intersection with other disciplines such are governance, mobility planning and biodiversity conservation, they will highlight cross-fertilization potentials between urban redevelopment projects and UGi qualification. The granularity of the research will span from the plot level to the neighborhood level with the context of Munich as an experimental ground.
