Subjects of the Summer school
The Summer School brings together scientists, practitioners and students to work on the following subjects:
1. Overview of the geography, geology, climate and landscape of the Bay of Naples as the setting for the monuments and their preservation
2. History of restoration in the region
3. Introduction to issues of restoration and long-term conservation of archeological sites – the case of Pompeii
4. Administration of archeological sites with an emphasis on conservation and sustainable tourism
5. Concepts of musealization and restoration through visits and workshops at various sites
6. The responsible bodies for conservation – Soprintendenza, towns, private firms, universities, local organizations
7. Financing cultural heritage and its preservation
8. The “Codice dei beni culturali e del paesaggio” as a roadmap for conservation in a European context
9. National memorials – specific approaches to the understanding and presentation of cultural heritage
